Maybe you’ve heard the expression “She has a face for radio.” It turns out not to be true: Women in radio are expected to be beautiful and glamorous, to use anti aging cream and Botox along with having great hair and fab makeup, just as their television counterparts do. Women in many industries find that beauty is just part of the job description, and a smooth, soft face and great figure can translate into salary and opportunities.

If the radio is rock-and-roll, it’s easy to get away with a casual wardrobe, but face and hair are almost always expected to be fantastic and sexy, even if no one but your co-workers can see you. And don’t forget that tradtional (non-Internet, usually) radio still requires personal appearances at store openings and concernts and all sorts of other events. So a youthful face and a big smile are necessary beauty features in this industry as in so many others.
